Identisectory by Karen Lin
An olfactory and sonic installation centred around Kilburn community.
With the MDX+KML
Residency, Middlesex
University’s Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries
has invited applications
for a residency that took place between April and
June 2024 with the Kilburn
Museum Lab.
At the heart of the residency programme is the vision of generating a context for artistic production and exchange, in which artists and designers can engage with Kilburn’s residents to reflect on the conditions and possibilities of contemporary community building. It provides opportunities for artistic experimentation and socially engaged practice, where innovative practices may be tried out.
Identiscentory -Sonicis an olfactory and sonic installation centred around Kilburn community.
By merging art, interactive elements, and AI technology, the project creates a narrative space that engages participants on multiple levels.
By creating a scent inspired by the Kilburn area, I aim to trigger memories and stories from local residents through olfactory cues and allow them to experience these stories through audio spatial transitions. The primary output of the project is an immersive exhibition experience where participants can engage with the narratives of local residents. Through interactive storytelling and sensory stimuli, visitors are not only exposed to the stories of the community but are also encouraged to contribute their own experiences to the archive.
Jr-Yun Lin (Karen) has been awarded the Middlesex University + Kilburn Museum Lab artist/ designer in residence, supported by the Faculty Research and Knowledge Exchange Fund. The project is installed at the event for Kilburn Museum Lab at the Tin Tabernacle on the 22nd of June 2024.
